Purchasing Assistant

The team at UPC is a leader in machined metal seals, pressure relief, and custom products for the Space/ Aerospace industry. We are seeking an Entry Level Purchasing Assistant with good interpersonal skills that is responsible and detail oriented. Ideal Candidate will be able to negotiate with existing and new suppliers both over the phone and in person.

This position reports directly to the Purchasing Manager.

The job functions include:

  • Negotiate with existing and new suppliers, for best price, lead time, and quality. Determine freight and logistics costs and include those in the analysis for best source.
  • Enter purchase orders in Access Database system, based on RFQ’s from UPC Team Members.
  • Follow up with suppliers to meet deadlines
  • Update Access Database with material quality and supplier performance information so that Management can decide whether to continue purchasing from Supplier.
  • Source and facilitate expedite product requirements, with a sense of urgency.
  • Success will be measured by effectiveness in helping to meet the Quality and on-time delivery KPIs, among other.

Must maintain confidential information appropriately. Must be willing and able to conduct direct negotiations with outside suppliers on a regular basis. In doing so, they are expected to be able to personally influence outcomes through persuasion.

Must be able to interact in an efficient, professional, and responsive manner with all levels of UPC Team Members, and suppliers.


Experience and Education

High School degree and at least one year of experience or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

Functional and Technical Skills

  • Possess good negotiation skills
  • Good verbal, written communication skills
  • Have ability to establish rapport and have good interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational skills,
  • Ability to establish work priorities and work with minimal supervision

Desirable Skills

  • Knowledge of Access Database is a Plus
  • QuickBooks
  • Purchasing experience in the Aerospace field
